Workshop on Marine Heatwaves (MHWs) research in Brest

Objective: The goal of this workshop is to foster connection, collaboration and interdisciplinarity among Brest scientists with an interest in Marine Heatwaves (MHWs). We aim to identify and explore cross-cutting themes that can serve as a foundation for future joint efforts.

Format: This will be an in-person, participatory workshop designed to actively engage all attendees.

Each participant will be invited to share a slide showcasing their interest in MHWs in 2 minutes. This could include past or planned research, relevant data or methodologies, open questions, or even a creative interpretation such as a drawing or poem related to marine heatwaves.

This will be followed by an open discussion about collaborative opportunities. Forseen topics include, for example: Are current monitoring systems adequate to observe MHWs? What are the ecological and societal impacts of MHWs? How well do numerical models represent MHWs? How can we better share data or coordinate efforts for collaborative work?

The workshop is organized for a maximum of 35 participants.

The workshop will be held on the Technopole Brest Iroise on September, 9 2025
